Review:

Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

Format (That I Read It):

Book

Summary:

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

Initial Thoughts:

I feel like I've been reading this book all year. I've been so busy lately with work that I actually haven't finished a real physical book in two months. I've started many, many books but now finally I have finished one of those ones I started.

Spoiler

.5
I really fell in love with this world and these characters in this book. It really reminded me of back in middle school/high school reading The Mortal Instruments. Ever since then I;ve been looking for a series that makes me as excited and reminds me of The Mortal Instruments. Now I've finally found it! When I read Throne of Glass I was doubtful that I would enjoy this series but it really is like everyone says; it gets better later on. Celaena was a character that I grew to really love in this book. Of course though, Chaol is still my favorite. The only thing about this book that didn't make it a full five stars is the fact that it was a bit too predictable still. But one thing that I didn't get was
Celaena being Alein Galathynius. I've heard people reference Alein and Celaena separately so I'm not sure what that is all about. Maybe more will be revealed later on and everything will make sense then. I hope Heir of Fire will be just as good.
